Video Analytics: The Chilean Startup Technology That Uses AI to Monitor and Prevent Accidents

Whether for work performed at heights or in loading and unloading zones, this solution uses Artificial Intelligence to detect unsafe behavior events that may affect the safety of an industrial operation, achieving with its use up to 92% fewer risks in work zones in the 1st year of implementation.

Tools like Artificial Intelligence (AI) and machine learning continue to extend their utility in the most varied areas, and in the world of security and logistics they have more and better applications.

In fact, both are present in one of the recent developments by Migtra, which this time decided to focus on video analytics.

As Pedro Garcia, General Manager and founder of Migtra explains, "to achieve an improvement in safety indices in different areas of fleet operations, a few years ago we developed this tool that, using our clients' surveillance cameras, allows us to perform safety and risk controls. Using statistical methods, through machine learning and Artificial Intelligence models and together with specially designed algorithms, we can analyze videos to prevent accidents," achieving up to 92% fewer risks in work zones.

And what information does it provide? After training a model tailored to the problem to be solved, through images obtained from real-time surveillance cameras, it can control, for example, whether operators use personal protective equipment, whether they comply with safety protocols and/or the established stages during a process. In case of non-compliance, alerts are issued on-site and by email, and a backup is provided for monitoring future activity.

Garcia adds that "we are constantly looking, through technology, for alternatives that improve safety, because we know it has a very important impact on workers and because it is also closely linked to productivity. There is a virtuous circle between them and thanks to cutting-edge developments it can be improved within companies and in different areas of their operations."

How does it work? Our clients have activities that occur throughout the day, without a fixed schedule and throughout the week, which must be monitored to control compliance with previously established safety protocols. Using on-site security cameras, our system allows, automatically and in real time, to evaluate whether the conditions established by the client are being met, raise alerts on-site and by email if applicable, and record video fragments of the activity, which are made available in a report, for subsequent management.
