MIGTRA Recognizes Excellence in Road Safety at Its Third RAEV Award
The commitment to road safety is essential to reducing the number of traffic accidents. In this regard, MIGTRA together with the National Traffic Safety Commission, CONASET, have held the third edition of the "SAFEST FLEET IN CHILE - RAEV 2022" award to recognize the companies with the lowest speeding risk, with the objective of acknowledging and encouraging safe driving.
The event was held on March 28 at the Renaissance Hotel, where representatives from companies, authorities and media attended to learn about the winners of this important award. As in the previous edition, journalist and communicator Daniel Silva served as master of ceremonies and host.
The ceremony opened with a video greeting from Juan Carlos Munoz, Minister of Transportation and Telecommunications, who could not be present but wanted to deliver a message to the community, before giving way to the speech by MIGTRA General Manager Pedro Garcia Gourdin, who highlighted the importance of promoting road safety in the business environment and thanked the presence of all attendees.
In addition to the authority, we had remarks from one of the event's hostesses, the Executive Secretary of CONASET, Ms. Karina Munoz, and from Alberto Escobar Munoz, Mobility and Public Policy Manager of the Automobile Club of Chile, who highlighted the importance of road safety in today's society.
After the speeches, the most anticipated moment of the ceremony arrived: the award ceremony. In addition to the traditional principal categories, this year we had a couple of novelties in the awards: For the transporter category, where there was tough competition, the 3 safest transporter fleets in the mining industry and 3 from other industries were recognized. Also, for the first time, outstanding drivers were awarded, whose safety performance was superlative throughout the year.
In the principal category, the award went to a company that has shown a solid commitment to safety, safety and productivity practices and is a clear example to follow in this industry: for the third consecutive year, the award for Chile's Safest Fleet in the Mining PRINCIPAL category went to the Land Transport of SQM with an indicator of 4.46 RAEV units. Rodrigo Jasen, Global Logistics Manager of SQM, received the award. It is worth noting that SQM's land transport fleet operates 7 different routes in the far north of Chile, an average of 270 of its trucks move cargo from the company's operations and more than 500 drivers provide service.
The award for Principal in the Other Industries Category went to ENEX, obtaining a RAEV indicator of 4.5 risk units per 100 km within a fleet of approximately 500 trucks and 1,000 drivers. Sebastian Azocar, ENEX Transportation Manager, took the stage representing his company.
In the "Safest Transporter" category, awards went to AGRETOC (service provider to SQM) in 3rd place with a RAEV of 4.5 risk units; second place went to Transportes PASCUAL PIZARRO, a fleet that performs functions for Codelco Division Salvador and obtained a RAEV of 3.9 risk units. And first place went to Transportes Nazar which achieved a RAEV indicator of 3.3 risk units per 100 km, specifically in the fleet serving SQM Land Transport.
In the RAEV awards for the Non-Mining Industries category, we had three winners: Transportes REINOSO with a RAEV of 4.2, IXXOS with RAEV 3.5 and Transportes BENUMAPU with a RAEV of 1.3 units, who obtained third, second and first place, respectively.
Road safety ultimately depends on who is behind the wheel of each vehicle, and drivers are therefore the most important pillar of prevention. That is why this year's RAEV awards were special, as they allowed putting a name and surname on driving without speeding accident risk.
To award these drivers, it was required that each trip evaluated had a dispatch guide or invoice that officially and unquestionably certified who was behind the wheel.
This recognition required the evaluation of 1,163 different drivers and only four achieved the award: Fourth place with a RAEV of 2.4 units and 82,437 km traveled during 2022 went to Hugo Zapata, driver at AGRETOC; third place went to Felix Cama, driver at Flota Astudillo with a RAEV of 1.6 risk units who traveled 108,046 km. Second place went to Sergio Gonzalez, driver at Flota COSEDUCAM who obtained a RAEV of 1.2 units and traveled 82,115 kilometers.
First place for Chile's Safest Driver during 2022 went to Juan Sandoval, driver at Transportes NAZAR who achieved a RAEV of 1.1 risk units and traveled 104,762 km. Congratulations!
The event, attended by more than 100 guests, concluded with a group photo and closing words from host Pedro Garcia, who thanked all attendees for their presence and commitment to road safety. He also announced that MIGTRA will continue working to promote safe driving and reduce traffic accidents.
With this type of initiative, we seek to raise awareness among companies about the importance of road safety and promote the adoption of measures to reduce traffic accidents. We hope that this type of event continues to be held and that more and more companies join this important task.
