Discover How ADI Revolutionizes Fleet Management in Mining!

To help simplify tasks in the mining world, MIGTRA together with SQM developed a solution called Intelligent Distribution Administrator (ADI) and it is implemented at the entrance of the Salar de Atacama, Antofagasta Region.

Having information at hand and in a timely manner in the mining world can reduce costs, travel times and in many cases, even prevent accidents on-site. With the objective of making the distribution of fleets moving within them more efficient, MIGTRA developed together with SQM a solution called Intelligent Distribution Administrator (ADI) and it is implemented at the entrance of the Salar de Atacama, Antofagasta Region.

ADI is an App that controls a complex hardware system that is already operational at the entrance of the Salar de Atacama, Antofagasta Region, and that helps make fleet movement more efficient in mining activities. The benefit offered by this tool is that these directives can now be given from anywhere with internet, turning the App into a remote-use tool (from any point in the country).

As Pedro Garcia, General Manager and founder of MIGTRA explains, "after extensive research and much work from our technical team together with SQM, we managed to create a tool that channels and centralizes information and provides guidance to 260 trucks from five different fleets, on a daily basis. One of the main objectives is to reduce equipment and driver stay times, which directly impacts the safety and productivity of transportation. We are proud that, this past April, with ADI, we won the Innovation and Technological Development Award in the Small Company Category awarded by AHK Chile 2024."

Daniel Sius, Head of Mechanical Engineering at SQM and project champion, told us that all this coordination has a positive effect, even in reducing emissions as travel routes are optimized. In fact, although the project did not initially consider impacting CO2 emissions, during the testing period, and as the executive details, "a decrease of two tons of CO2 emissions was observed, representing 24,000 fewer kilos per year. This just by distributing the lithium transport service equipment more efficiently, associated with finding the shortest route to reduce stay time."

Technology and the environment

Prior to ADI's launch, work was done in a "primitive" way, meaning the entry and distribution of equipment at the Salar de Atacama was carried out from a guard booth by personnel in charge of the guard shift.

This presented some inconveniences such as poor entry control, limited distributions, inaccurate equipment counting, poor communication (cell signal), undesired interaction between guard and driver, among others.

When implementing this new modality, a totem specially designed to withstand the adverse climatic conditions of the area was considered, since being outdoors it had to be resistant to wind, sand and dust, as well as the high and low temperatures typical of the desert zone. The hardware equipment also features a sustainable 4x3 unipol screen, powered by solar energy.

The ease and positive impact with which this intelligent system was added to the development of SQM's daily tasks has led to considering its application in other company operations.

Benefits of ADI for the Mining Industry and the Environment

The implementation of ADI has brought a series of tangible benefits for the mining industry and the environment, such as greater flexibility in the execution of vehicle distribution, given the range of strategies it has.

ADI has managed to minimize equipment stay times, which translates into greater productivity and safety. Additionally, it has demonstrated its positive impact on reducing CO2 emissions, as well as being a facilitator in the work of various areas and operational controllers.

Custom solutions

This is just one of the many customized and tailor-made solutions we offer our clients, as in the case of SQM. ADI not only represents a technological advancement in fleet management, but also a commitment to the environment. By implementing intelligent and sustainable technology, such as hardware equipment resistant to extreme weather conditions and powered by solar energy, MIGTRA is laying the foundations for a more sustainable future in the mining industry.

At MIGTRA we stand out for our flexibility in meeting new requirements and for our ability to generate solutions adapted to the specific needs of each client.
