In September, we celebrated our third anniversary, developing and delivering innovative solutions in transport systems management through technology. It is a special date for us, and we want to commemorate it telling you a little more about our beginnings and what motivated us to create this project called Migtra. For this purpose, we talked to Roberto Lira, Director of Technology of our team, who told us about the beginnings, the trajectory, and the development of technology.

How was the Migtra project born?

The Migtra project was born from the need to provide the road transport industry with higher-quality information for decision making. For years, companies offering GPS vehicle tracking evolved and focused their efforts on providing the best instrumental technology for the transport industry, but without caring for how fleet managers really need this information and how to support them in improving their management of these data to maximize their benefits.

What motivated you to develop your own algorithm?

The objective of providing our clients with information that is easy to manage, aggregate, segmented, exact, and efficient has required Migtra to develop highly innovative algorithms for treating data, storing statistics, and creating unique quantitative indicators. One of our major achievements, the RAEV (risk of accidents from speeding) indicator, summarizes in just one number all the difficulties of correctly interpreting and managing hundreds of speeding events that occur under a variety of conditions and factors that determine their danger, allowing transport companies to manage the risk of accidents in a very efficient way and accomplish long-lasting, sustainable achievements.

Migtra offers solutions that adapt to the specific needs of each client, providing data and information in real time to improve and optimize their resources, especially for actions aimed to minimizing accidents and controlling operations, thus guaranteeing the quality of their services.

Therefore, companies that have leveraged digitalization have taken a step forward in this context of crisis. Now more than ever it is wise to pay attention and encourage an exchange of knowledge and best practices to improve current processes, allowing to anticipate eventualities and continue with operations adapted to the new normality.

“The objective of providing our clients with information that is easy to manage, aggregate, segmented, exact, and efficient has required Migtra to develop highly innovative algorithms for treating data, storing statistics, and creating unique quantitative indicators.”

What does this third anniversary mean to you? What are the major learnings?

We are happy to see how we have kept our promise to be useful for our clients and to positively influence their daily decision-making in relation to transport management. Our major learning is to constantly listen to and interpret what our clients think of our solution, focusing our efforts and engineering on solving their problems every day, and never to lose perspective on the fact that the most important thing is to be valuable to them.

What is your view on technology in Chile vs the region and the world?

We have always thought that Chile has an enormous potential for innovation and can have an impact on technological changes around the world. The urgent need to leave underdevelopment behind and stop believing that we can only export raw materials makes us consider technical innovation as the best tool for progress day to day.

Having advanced cloud technology suppliers such as Amazon Web Services, the exponential growth of artificial intelligence and its real applicability to all industries, business accelerators with their experience and advice, etc., offer unprecedented tools and opportunities for many young businesses to develop high technology and to have a chance to compete in the industry in a very equal way. There are no excuses or limits to technological development, only creativity, talent, and energy to make ideas happen.

What are the plans for the future of Migtra?

To continue growing and improving our value offer every day led by the experience with our clients. To expand our services in the region and to continue integrating artificial intelligence into our products progressively, allowing to further improve decision-making processes and transport fleet management.
